Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residential Education, the Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC) is responsible for cultivating a vibrant, inclusive community for over 5,400 resident students and oversees the daily operations of multiple residential buildings within an assigned area. By fostering a supportive and engaging environment, the RHC ensures the success of the residential experience through the supervision of a dedicated team of Resident Assistants (RAs) and a Graduate Hall Coordinator. As a model of professionalism and integrity, the RHC contributes to a strong, interconnected campus culture and elevates the residential experience for all students.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, collaboration, organizational, problem-solving, and strategic engagement skills; experience working with diverse college student populations; and a genuine commitment to student success.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and deliver the residential curriculum for an assigned area
Oversee and foster living-learning and themed communities
Supervise, mentor, and professionally develop Resident Assistants (RAs) with regular individual and team meetings, ongoing development sessions, and periodic performance appraisals to help them to grow as leaders and role models within the community
Supervise Graduate Hall Coordinator with regular one-on-one meetings and periodic appraisals to effectively deliver the residential curriculum
Support Graduate Hall Coordinator to implement themed programs and student engagement initiatives to cultivate inclusive environments and organize community events and educational programs that align with the department?s mission
Assist Graduate Hall Coordinator to create a community development framework that leverages each RA's unique skills and interests to position them as effective peer leaders
Manage and report student issues and concerns within the residence halls
Oversee how student issues are addressed and coordinate proactive student outreach program
Respond to incidents as they arise to reinforce a safe and supportive community
Serve as a member of the Residence Life & Housing Community Standards team including oversight of hearing violations of the Student Code of Conduct, Occupancy Agreement, and Community Living Standards
Ensure building and resident safety by reporting and tracking maintenance issues with campus partners
Manage all openings and closings of assigned area
Maintain high visibility and availability including attending community events, regularly touring assigned buildings, and interacting with students
Serve as a role model for all hall staff and residents in personal and professional behaviors
Develop inclusive communities to ensure student success and belonging through a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree
Two years of experience in Residence Life and Housing or related field working with students in education or support for college age students. (Graduate experience acceptable)
Experience in residence life or residential education in a higher education setting
Availability to work evening and weekend shifts
Availability to participate in on-call duty rotation and to arrive at campus as required in emergency situations
Master's degree in Student Affairs or related field
Experience in residence life or residential education in a higher education setting
Experience with supervising college age students
Experience with residential housing or case management software such as Maxient or StarRez
