The Faculty of Arts & Sciences (FAS) Office of Finance is a dynamic work environment that conducts strategic and financial analysis to ensure the optimal use of resources to support the education and research missions of the FAS.  The Senior Financial Analyst serves as a key member of the Budget and Planning team in developing the FAS Consolidated Budget as well as various ad-hoc and special projects as assigned by the FAS Office of Finance management and other senior leadership.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Budget & Analysis, the Senior Financial Analyst will conduct financial and budgetary analysis and act as the subject matter expert for a portfolio that supports the Division of Continuing Education, Harvard College Library, Athletics, and the FAS Dean Division. This includes analyzing financial performance and budgetary issues, evaluating budget requests, monitoring budget-to-actual results, and reviewing year-end results.  As the main point of contact, this position is responsible for reviewing the budget submissions for all units in the portfolio and ensuring that they follow the guidance provided by the Dean.  It also involves working collaboratively on critical strategic financial questions that require thoughtful problem solving and analytical capability.

The Senior Financial Analyst provides financial and technical assistance to Affiliated Tubs and Administrative Departments on all types of financial issues. The incumbent must have the capacity to navigate effectively across a group of constituents whose operations are of central importance to the FAS.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
• Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

• MBA or Master’s degree in relevant field preferred
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel, and PowerPoint skills
• Advanced knowledge of budget management, financial analysis, and financial modeling; working knowledge of accounting principles
• Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools
• Applicants should also have a collaborative working style with excellent consultative and problem-solving skills.
• Candidates must have the ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels of the organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
