Position Salary Grade Range (Annual) 21: $49,700-101,530. Starting salary will be based on the candidate's experience and qualifications with a minimum annual salary of $64,000 for this recruitment.

Job Summary
UW-Madison's Office of Risk Management is recruiting a Risk Management Specialist to join its team. This newly created Risk Management Specialist position, with promotional opportunity within UW-Madison's Office of Risk Management, provides the successful candidate with an exciting opportunity to learn, grow and build a successful career in higher education risk management. Through performing key responsibilities in supporting the claims administration, risk management and risk control activities of the Office of Risk Management, the Risk Management Specialist will have opportunity to interact with and assist faculty and staff members throughout the UW-Madison campus community.
Working collaboratively as a member of the Office of Risk Management's team of risk professionals, the Risk Management Specialist will analyze and evaluate information related to insurance claims and risk-related activities, assist in responding to risk-related questions and investigations and assist in supporting the daily operational and administrative functions of the Office of Risk Management. The Risk Management Specialist will also participate in the Office of Risk Management's delivery of risk-related education and training to the UW-Madison campus community.
Among the varied activities and daily responsibilities of the position, the Risk Management Specialist also will validate and enter claims information into the Riskonnect claims database for processing; maintain logs to track insurance claim activities and subrogation recoveries; review motor vehicle records and assist members of the campus community who are seeking authorization to drive vehicles for university business; and assist in updating information on Risk Management's website. This position will also perform insurance claim financial accounting transactions to facilitate the distribution of claim recovery proceeds to campus departments.
Job Responsibilities
Assists in the achievement of the risk management program goals, helps in the identification of risk management issues, coordinates unit response, and provides education and training to eliminate potential risks and find solutions for existing risks.
- 35% Helps in the identification and analysis of risk-related issues, responds to risk-related inquiries, and assists in the operational functions of investigations
- 30% Analyzes and evaluates information obtained from risk-related investigations
- 10% Assists in the recommendations and implementation of solutions for risk-related issues and events; and audits the impact of proposed solutions and resolutions
- 5% Executes risk-related trainings and educational programs
- 5% Provides claims processing and program administration support for UW-Madison's self-funded worker's compensation, property, automobile collision, liability, and other insurance programs.
- 5% Assists in administering and maintaining UW-Madison's Enterprise Fleet Driver Authorization process and database for campus community drivers, in compliance with DOA Fleet and UW System policies.
- 5% Assists in the evaluation and processing of certificates of insurance, risk investigations and insurance requirements related to university contracts, campus facility use and campus events.
- 5% Supports and assists in the execution of risk management office operations.
Required:
- Experience or demonstrated interest in risk management and/or insurance.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate professionally and effectively with individuals at all levels within and outside of the organization.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and information management databases.
