The Financial Analyst is a member of the Budget Office team that is responsible for the development and administration of all aspects of the College’s budgeting, forecasting, reporting and long-term financial planning efforts. The Financial Analyst interfaces with different departments throughout the College as well as outside contacts. The Financial Analyst works with financial systems, including the College’s ERP and budget and financial planning applications. The incumbent must exercise good judgment when working with financial information and maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, efficiency and timeliness in all work performed. The Financial Analyst reports to the Assistant Vice President Budget & Analytics.
Provide technical support and solutions for financial budget systems and assist with application upgrades, enhancements and system troubleshooting
Responsible for building and maintaining components of the financial model, verifying data, developing reports and analyses using the financial applications.
Maintain and develop various financial models and standard templates distributed for use during the planning processes, ensuring quality, accuracy and focused analytic review
Responsible for developing and maintaining documentation of key systems and processes
Analytics and Reporting
Support the development of the campus-wide budget process, conduct independent analysis of financial data and prepare financial reports for internal and external purposes
Responsible for the maintenance and integrity of data interfaces with systems of original entry and variance resolution
Assist in the development of revenue and expense forecasts and monitor performance of assigned areas
Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports, variance analyses with explanations, trend analyses or other ad-hoc requests to support decision making
Assist with creation and assembly of board and cabinet meeting materials
Review and analyze budget transfers and requests
Provide direction or training to department budget managers pertaining to policy, procedures or financial system use
Assist in the day-to-day business operations to ensure compliance of College policies and procedures and other special projects as assigned
Establish and maintain relationships with department budget coordinators
Perform other duties as assigned
Self-starter with ability to work independently and to exercise confidentiality and discretion
Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
Prioritization and multi-tasking skills in fast paced environment
Knowledge and experience with journal entries, financial statement preparation
Must be skilled in understanding database structure and can manipulate data imports and exports for financial reporting and analysis.
Individual contributor and works well in a team environment
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or Finance required
3-5 years relevant accounting or finance experience; Higher education preferred
Demonstrated understanding of financial and budgeting processes including generally accepted accounting principles
Financial reporting experience with strong spreadsheet, data-management, and presentation skills
Skilled in or prior experience with financial system support preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Excel and intermediate PowerPoint and Word.
Banner, Cognos, and Anaplan system knowledge a plus
