The Chief Information Security Officer ("CISO") is responsible for the development, planning, implementation and oversight of Central Michigan University's ("CMU") information security program. He or she will work collaboratively with the campus community to establish an appropriate information security program that includes policy, practices and standards; awareness and training; incident response and management; risk assessment and management; and the development and maintenance of a supporting IT architecture. The CISO will also serve as the university's primary information security liaison to federal, state, and local professional organizations. The CISO reports to the university's Chief Information Officer ("CIO") and serves on the Office of Information Technology ("OIT") leadership team. The position will supervise 1-2 information security staff, lead cross-functional teams, and have budget authority for the Information Security Team.
Bachelor's degree.Minimum of 8 years of experience in a combination of information security and compliance-related positions in higher education or similarly complex environment with increasing levels of responsibility; including at least four years of leadership experience.Must possess one or more relevant IT security certifications.Extensive knowledge of information security.Experience supervising or mentoring information technology professionals.Experience with negotiating and supervising contracts and agreements with end users, service providers, and regulatory agencies.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate security and risk- related concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.Poise and ability to act calmly and competently in high-pressure, high- stress situations.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Excellent analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well in demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives.Project management skills: financial/budget management, scheduling and resource management.Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams to achieve tactical and strategic goals.High level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and show an appropriate level of judgement and maturity.High degree of initiative, dependability, and ability to work with little supervision.Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
