The Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration of Oberlin College invites applications for the position of Financial Analyst. This is a full-time, 12-month, Administrative and Professional Staff position reporting to the Director of Budget and Financial Planning.
Responsibilities will include serving as a liaison between key business partners and IT to assist or gather business requirements needed for system modifications, enhancement and implementations; develops various business analyses using Banner, ARGOS and Tableau software; develops, monitors, and maintains various financial metrics and key performance indicators for management; assists with revenue/formula funding analysis and calculations for new or changes to existing academic programs as requested; provides financial analysis for Procurement RFP’s as needed; prepares graphical and narrative presentations, as assigned; provides budgeting/financial support to College divisions; prepares monthly management reports; manages special projects for the Finance Division as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other relevant field with a systems minor/systems coursework or previous experience with financial systems. • Strong background in the use of technology and analytical tools. Proven experience with Advanced Microsoft Excel functions required; proven experience with Oracle or other relational databases, and Banner Finance system and ODS preferred. • Minimum five years of related financial experience with strong background in accounting, budgeting and financial data management. • Substantial knowledge of computer applications for business and finance and experience with database querying tools. • Ability to develop complex financial reports for forecasting, trending and results analysis and synthesis of findings. • Ability to extract financial data from various accounting and information systems and perform complex statistical, financial and cost accounting analysis of data for use in planning and decision-making • Ability to perform in-depth analyses on budget performance, investigate variances, provide justification, and communicate to leadership as requested • Must be well organized, flexible, and able to independently manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work setting • Working knowledge of general accounting principles and practices required in the preparation of complex and detailed financial and budgetary analyses in order to address a variety of financial issues/problems • Processes & presents data & information through the application of database, graphic & spreadsheet software. • Ability to obtain data from enterprise systems using Banner native reports, developing reports from Argos datablocks and/or other approved reporting tools; developing SQL queries as needed. • Ability to communicate, document, and coordinate specifications for IT development of programs, processes, and/or data structures such as views or datablocks. • liaison between key business partners and IT to assist or gather business requirements needed for system modifications, enhancement and implementations; • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including nonprofit. • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends. • Strong attention to detail. • Prior experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems. Prior Banner experience desired. • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills to present findings and communicate complex information clearly and credibly to multiple audiences, including the Board of Trustees. • Ability to communicate well with all levels of management and staff and interact effectively with a variety of departments within the College, College leadership and the Board of Trustees. • Strong collaboration and leadership skills to support and lead project teams. • Assist with the development of business analytics tools • Ability to work independently, manage details, organize and prioritize.
Desired Qualifications: Prior experience and familiarity with higher education policies, practices, and financial trends desired. Experience with information system support and development a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of Human Resources functions and processes preferred. Experience with Ellucian Banner software, Ellucian Banner ODS, Argos and Tableau Reporting software preferred. Prior experience with the development and implementation of Enterprise Resources Planning systems a plus.
Would be willing to arrange a remote work environment if the right fit, however, work must be performed in the State of Ohio.
