The Fiscal Officer directs and participates in the activities of the Finance department including general ledger maintenance, payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. Applies knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, public administration, and regulatory compliance to college accounting functions. This position has primary responsibility for the daily, monthly and yearly compilation, reconciliation and analysis of the college’s financial transactions and statements.
This position supervises a variety of financial and operational functions, including budget management, accounts receivable, payroll and grant accounting. Applies knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, public administration, and regulatory compliance. Coordinates financial reporting and audits, directs and assists college personnel with financial activities. Performs analysis, maintenance and reconciliation of all financial accounts and records; Prepares journal entries for corrections and adjustments for Danville Community College. Prepares and maintains reconciliation of the college’s investment activity. Monitors college general fund checking and savings account activity. Works with chief financial officer on budget issues and prepares budget and account transfers. Reviews and signs-off on monthly college general fund bank reconciliations. Oversees the day-to-day functions of departmental staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of bank reconciliations, payroll, payables, and receivables; assists department and college staff with problem resolution as needed. Works closely with the financial aid department and admissions on student accounts.
Detailed knowledge of fund accounting and GASB
Detailed knowledge of internal control management
Extensive experience and aptitude with Oracle based accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Progressively responsible positions in accounting or finance
Supervisory experience in an accounting or business office
Experience working in a collaborative manner with diverse constituencies.
Prior related experience in an educational setting preferred
