Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Finance and Administration, the Director of Academic Finance is responsible for managing and reporting on all aspects of the budget(s) under the control of the Office of the Provost. This position manages and coordinates the new budget model and budgeting and forecasting software platform for the Office of the Provost. Serves as lead for all financial matters for the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor and is the liaison between the financial staff for the academic units (colleges and institutes) and the Office of the Provost. Directs business and financial operations and staff of the Office of the Provost.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy and Budget Development
Responsible for collaborating with Assistant Provost for Finance and Administration on developing resource allocation plans to support Chancellor and Provost strategic plans and initiatives across the campus.
Develops, analyzes, and exercises management authority of the Provost Office budget, and oversight of the Academic Affairs unit budgets.
Ensures academic unit financial operations are consistent with the Provost’s strategic plans.
Gathers and consolidates budget preparation requests for annual budget activities such as consolidating merit raise files from the colleges and other Provost units, reviewing all new fee proposals from the colleges, making budget transfers to or from the Provost accounts to college and Academic Affairs accounts, and reviewing and verifying carryover calculations and distributions by and to the colleges and Academic Affairs units.
Serves in an advisory capacity to academic units with regards to proper way to perform tasks while ensuring compliance with fiscal policy.
Manages and coordinates the Budget Allocation Model and budgeting and forecasting software platform for the Provost's Office.
Identifies areas of concern related to Budget Allocation Model software and works with the campus Budget Office on resolution.
Operates as the primary point of contact between the Provost Office and the college administrative deans and budget officers responsible for budget analysis, planning, and reporting, evaluates variances and develops explanations and action plans in response to the variance explanations.
Translates strategic plans into operational plans and provides analysis to support operational plans.
Business and Fiscal Operations and Human Resources
Directs operations and financial and administrative staff of the Provost’s office, including selection, supervision, performance review, and corrective action.
Conducts ongoing needs assessment of office functions and makes recommendations about changes to organizational structures in order to maintain maximum operational efficiencies.
Operates as the liaison between the Provost Office and the other operational areas of campus administration.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and eight (8) years of professional financial management experience, or a Master’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of experience.
Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
MBA in Finance
Experience with cloud-based software platforms is helpful.
Knowledge of other analytical, reporting, and dashboard software such as Power BI and/or Tableau is helpful.
Higher education background strongly preferred.
Advanced degree, preferably MBA in Finance.

Ability to offer expert opinion and guidance to support executive level decision making.
