The University of New Mexico Bookstore is seeking a dynamic, cutting-edge leader to direct our store operations including customer experience, loss prevention, events, and daily operations of the retail sales floor. The selected candidate will, under general direction, provide oversight for all aspects of customer service, loss prevention and daily operations. This position is specifically responsible for managing daily store opening, staff scheduling, customer assistance, problem resolution, product merchandising and stocking, event coordination, visual display coordination, loss prevention and security. Responsible for developing and implementing training for staff, student and temporary employees on customer service standards, administering and reviewing customer surveys to assess quality of service, analyzing survey results to assist with identifying opportunities for growth, directing student and temporary employees on operating all POS registers and developing loss prevention initiatives, strategies, policies and procedures. Monitors floor operations and responds to security issues, acting as a liaison with the University Police Department when needed. Allocates and schedules work within the area, ensuring all sales floor needs are covered and fills in for staff as required. Coordinates the operations of student accounts, athletic accounts, and third party accounts and participates, develops and implements policies and procedures for all supervised areas. Some weekend and evening hours required.

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Thorough understanding of cash management principles and/or procedures
Strong knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Experience with creating, following and enforcing loss prevention procedures
Experience with supervising and training staff, including employee development and performance management skills
Demonstrated skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions, gather data, compile information and prepare reports
Basic understanding of retail operations, inventory control practices, merchandising and visual display techniques
Experience coordinating and running events
Demonstrated skill in creating exceptional customer experiences.
