The Associate Controller and Finance Director provides leadership, direction and management of UCD's Finance and Accounting units and functions. These areas include General Accounting, Student Accounting, Contracts and Grants Accounting, Financial Reporting, Capital Asset and Equipment Management, Treasury, Finance and Cashiering.
This position oversees fund management, compliance and reporting for plant, endowments, sales & services, auxiliary enterprise, and the general funds totaling over $4 billion in annual revenues for the University.
The Associate Controller/Finance Director works independently to establish strategies, controls, processes, policies, and procedures and consults with the Assistant Vice Chancellor - Finance/Controller and other UC leadership as appropriate.
Ten plus years of accounting/finance leadership experience.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Strong leadership skills, business judgment, with the ability to motivate colleagues, and rewarding and recognizing employee performance.
Skills to lead and execute departmental strategic planning processes and participate and provide valuable input to Vice Chancellor/Executive level strategic planning process.
Extensive experience in developing and applying accounting, financial and internal control policy; technical knowledge of GAAP, FASB, GASB, external and internal audit practices and expectations.
Experience in directing operational improvement activities, as well as strategic initiatives, including ability to acquire, allocate, and optimize resources and manage complex budgets.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Possession of MBA and/or CPA/CMA certification.
Experience at a large research institution and/or medical center.
