The University of Puget Sound invites applications for a strategic and innovative Campus Store Director.
The Campus Store Director provides strategic and innovative leadership for the Campus Store and is responsible for overall store management; planning and managing day-to-day operations; developing annual budgets and managing revenue and expenses; hiring, training and supervising store staff; providing exceptional service that is responsive to the needs of students and supports their success; and collaborating and maintaining excellent relationships with all university constituents.
Create and adjust long-term campus store vision; develop strategic long term plans and annual goals.
Plan and direct campus store operations including purchasing, merchandising, cashiering, customer service, inventory management, and accounting functions.
Oversee point-of-sale, inventory control, and ecommerce processes, including software and hardware applications that support store operations.
Supervise and evaluate store staff performance; recruit, hire, and train new staff; coordinate work assignments and review work to assure accuracy and compliance with standards, requirements, and procedures.
Plan and direct purchasing activities to meet store needs and assure adequate and appropriate inventory of general merchandise and academic course materials; coordinate and conduct annual inventory.
Direct cashiering functions and processing of online orders for course materials and general merchandise.
Establish annual budgets and continuously monitor and manage revenues and expenses.
Direct and perform marketing and merchandising functions consistent with Puget Sound's brand, including use of an ecommerce website and social media promotion.
Coordinate store operations and communications with university constituents to assure proper support of academic timelines, campus events, and activities. This includes coordination with faculty, staff, students, academic departments, Alumni and Parent Relations, Athletics, Office of Communications, Admission, and other departments.
Remain current with college store industry standards and innovations for course materials, general merchandise, computer and software technology, store operations, and general retailing.
Develop great store service ethic, train staff in customer service, and serve as a service role model.
Perform purchasing, cashiering, web-order processing, and accounting duties when needed, including when other store staff are absent.
Perform other duties as needed.
Participate in professional development including some travel and college store meetings/conferences.
Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise five regular full-time and part-time staff as well as student and temporary staff.
Budget Responsibilities Responsible for preparing and managing a budget excess of $1.7 million dollars.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and four years of college store management experience, or comparable combination of relevant education and experience.
Significant experience using a point-of-sale system and bookstore software, as well as general computer skills.
Solid knowledge of accepted business and retailing practices. Must have strong analytical skills and financial acumen with keen understanding of retail management principles, budgeting, gross margin analysis, college course material trends, retail inventory management and pricing strategies.
Familiar with purchasing practices, procedures, and terminology.
Knowledgeable about course material options, general merchandise, computer supplies, and consumer electronics.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer service commitment with proven ability to collaborate with individuals and departments.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with ability to work independently.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience with principles and practices of administration, supervision, training, and staff evaluation.
Ability to lift up to thirty pounds.
Ability to respectfully work, communicate, and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.
