Preferred Qualifications 1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field 2. Five years of progressively responsible experience in financial accounting, reporting, and analysis 3. Familiarity with NACUBO financial accounting and reporting guidelines 4. Experience with an ERP system (i.e. SAP, Banner, PeopleSoft) 5. Experience with federal grant management 6. Experience with automated reporting tools (data warehouse) 7. Experience with governmental and/or not-for-profit accounting 8. Experience in serving on committees and teams 9. Supervisory experience 10. Advanced business degree 11. Certified Public Accountant
Job Description Performs complex professional accounting work involving the application of a comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices to the resolution of a wide variety of complex accounting problems. This position may have primary responsibility for a segment of the General Accounting operation or a specialized complex area.
Job Duties Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analysis; Respond to ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting; Extract data, analyze financial transactions and summarize findings; Ensure accurate and timely reporting in accordance with professional standards, Federal, State, and university policies and procedures; Annual Financial Report (AFR) schedule preparation and review; Coordinate and prepare the annual Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA), including external audit support; Provide supervision and guidance to others, including continuous staff performance evaluations; Manage federal financial aid draws; Review and verify the accuracy and appropriateness of interdepartmental transfers; Conduct or manage special studies or projects and develop or recommend accounting methods and procedures; Develop and maintain written policies and procedures; Prepare and conduct occasional training classes for university staff through the Professional Development program; and Perform other duties necessary for the effective operation of the department.
Some evening and week-end hours are necessary, with significant amounts during August through October for preparation of the annual financial report and year-end close-out.
