Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Finance & Administration, directs the day-to-day operations and activities of the Safety and Risk Management department. The department includes, but is not limited to: Workers compensation, occupational health, University's property and liability program, commercial insurance and loss program for GSU foundation, GSU research foundation, Athletic Association and Alumni Association. Manages and supervises employees in the department while overseeing and managing the budget for the area. Administers the University' s Workers Compensation program and serves as the liaison between the University and the Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) regarding Workers Compensation, loss prevention, and disputed property and liability claims. Manages the Risk Management needs of the University' s affiliated organizations, in coordination with the Board of Directors of each organization and the Office of Legal Affairs. Advises on insurance matters related to capital improvements, acquisitions, leases, legal liability and real property and bond financing. Oversees the IT programs for Safety& Risk management operations software administrations. Prepares, implements and monitors budgets for the Safety and Risk management department. Performs and documents monthly financial review. Assures compliance with quarterly PCard requirements. Provides management and internal controls in directing the Safety and Risk Management department. Adheres to and maintains appropriate internal controls pertaining to operative and fiscal responsibilities. Provides supervision, training and developmental assistance to employees within the department. Promotes excellence in customer service. Develops operational procedures for the department. Represents Safety and Risk Management department on various committees and meetings among a broad base constituency. Attends various seminars and events with regulatory and other agencies to assure the University adheres to the most current rules and requirements. Preforms other duties as assigned. Bachelor's degree required; major or concentration in risk management, business, environmental health and safety, law or other related field. Master's degree and/or Certification in field such as ARM (Associate in Risk Management) certification or similar educational designation preferred. 5+ years’ experience in risk management in a University setting preferred.
