Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in accounting; or Associate’s degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
-Sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and personnel tax principles.
-Ability to quickly assemble and analyze large amount of employment related tax data.
-Ability to communicate in an easily understood manner, highly complicated and inter-related employment related tax concepts.
-Ability to meet multiple and conflicting deadlines in a very deadline driven environment.
-Ability to foster productive relationships with external tax authority/agencies, including the IRS, Social Security Administration, NC Department or Revenue and NC Employment Security Commission.
Three (3) to five (5) years experience of employment tax compliance for a multi-state employer employing 500+ employees. Three (3) to (5) years experience working with major HR/Payroll ERP system like PeopleSoft, SAP, Banner, Lawson, etc.
Prefer payroll accounting experience.
Prefer knowledge of established state government and University budgeting practices and procedures; knowledge and ability to interpret and apply tax regulations, both IRS and NC Department of Revenue policies. Prefer knowledge of UNC-Chapel Hill policies and procedures; ability to compile, monitor, examine, and audit complex accounts, such as journal entries, and experience collecting data and assessing payroll accounting programs. Prefer experience working closely with campus departments to provide knowledge and understanding of account practices when balancing accounts.
