The Budget Director functions at a policy level in preparing the annual budget and forecast, and at a hands-on level in monitoring and overseeing daily budgetary activity. Both budget and forecast are prepared on a GAAP basis with complete statements of financial position, activities, and cash flow. Under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Financial Affairs, the Budget Director develops and oversees, and maintains the University’s annual operating budget and multi-year forecast in an enterprise software environment.
• Guide the timely and supported preparation of the multi-year forecast including the annual operating budget. Assist University units in budget preparation. • Prepare annual budget and forecasting work calendar • Assure timely and accurate loading of the approved budget into Banner • Maintain budget information in Banner and Prophix, including original loads and any subsequent adjustments. Analyze, review, and make recommendations on budget requests and adjustments. Assure balancing and reconciliation between Banner and Prophix budget data and supporting systems and documentation. • Develop sound processes for budget development, solicitation of inputs, and communication that foster accuracy and transparency, and support sound decision-making • Participate in PeopleAdmin workflows for personnel requests and adjustments assuring clear and adequate funding for changes • Timely monitoring of operating results including resolution of variances • Conduct financial analyses and forecasts as needed or requested • Serve as a resource to university departments in interpreting budget and accounting policies and practices • Work closely with the Controller for periodic financial performance reporting as well as compliance and consistency of budgeting and accounting practices • Train University employees on use of Banner and Prophix budgeting tools and reports • Regularly communicate with a variety of persons at all levels, from departmental support staff to senior leadership and committees of the Board of Trustees as required. Regularly interface with Budget and Appropriations Committee of the faculty. • Ability to work effectively with divisions, colleges, and departments. Handle delicate relationships and complex situations. Maintain confidentiality of personnel and other data. • Supervise the clerical and data entry of budgetary transactions by others • Other duties as assigned

Communication skills include oral, written, and presentation • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision • Attention to detail in a multitasking environment • Proficient in Excel • Commitment to serving other departments; finding a way to be helpful • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field • Minimum of five years of accounting management, including supervisory experience
• Masters in appropriate business discipline Degree or willingness to begin work on a Master’s Degree • Banner experience and skills • Experience with enterprise budget or corporate performance management software, preferably Prophix
