Job Summary: The Office of Risk Management is seeking a talented person to develop and manage the University Occupational Safety Programs. This person will work closely with the Office of Facilities to ensure the university employees are complying with occupational safety programs that meet OSHA requirements and recognized best practices.
Coordinate the design and implementation of new occupational safety programs applicable to university employees
Review and refresh all existing programs
Ensure compliance with occupational safety and health programs by university employees
Develop and deliver appropriate training and education related to occupational safety programs
Ensure proper incident reporting and that investigations are performed and documented
Assist in conducting job hazard and risk analyses for the university trades.
Perform inspections and audits of facilities
Implement a culture of safety throughout the university
Ensure proper records are maintained at all times
Support Resilience and Crisis Management Programs
Support Emergency Response Programs
Other duties as required.
Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in safety engineering or industrial safety. Three (3) years of experience coordinating occupational safety programs in a university or industrial setting. Professional certification is preferred (CSP, CSHO, etc.) Fluency in Spanish is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ability to work with a wide range of people at varying levels of skill and authority-effectively-is required. The ability to multi-task, manage and prioritize day-to-day tasks combined with project management is required. Strong understanding of facilities infrastructure and university operations is preferred-ability to learn required. Candidate should have strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate should be able to manage time and problem solve effectively and have a strong customer service orientation. Organizational skills and project management skills are highly desired and the candidate must have attention to detail. Microsoft office skills are required. Additional software as needed for database support is preferred. The ideal candidate should have the ability to manage time, identify and provide appropriate metrics and reports as needed, and accurately manage multiple projects simultaneously. Web development experience is preferred. Position may require response to potential incidents may occur at any time and this person may be called in anytime day/night or even on weekends or vacations-although rare.
